The History Of University of Iringa

In 1995 Tumaini University, Iringa University College was founded, originating as Iringa Lutheran College and Seminary. In 1997 it began offering University Certificate, Diploma, and Degree programmes. It operated as University College for eighteen years and was distinguished as being the first private university in Tanzania. Graduates from this University have become prominent throughout the country in Lutheran ministry, law, and business. On 25th October 2013 Iringa University College became the full-fledged University of Iringa (UoI). The University has six departments/faculties and offers multiple courses of study in each, certificates, diplomas, bachelors', and post-graduate degrees. It is under the aegis of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania. The University boasts a highly trained and experienced academic staff from Tanzania and countries across the globe. Program Description:  The Fulbright FLTA Program is a nine-month, Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA)-funded, non-degree program for early career English teachers or professionals in related fields. Participants have the opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the society and culture of the United States, while being teaching assistants for their native language to U.S. students and strengthening foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities. Fulbright FLTA participants also interact with their host communities in conversation groups, extracurricular activities, and community outreach projects. Fulbright FLTA participants must return to their home countries upon completion of the program. Fulbright FLTA participants may assist in up to twenty hours of language classes a week and are required to enroll in at least two courses per semester, one of which must be in U.S. Studies. Coursework is offered on either an audit or credit basis. Fulbright FLTA participants will also be expected to facilitate cultural events, language clubs, and language tables.


Eligibility:  Applicants are typically teachers of English or in training to become teachers of English, and at minimum must possess the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree by June 1, 2019 to allow time to submit an official transcript prior to the start of the Fulbright FLTA Program. Fluency in English is mandatory, demonstrated by a score of no less than 550 (paper based TOEFL); 213 (computer based TOEFL – CBT); 79-80 (internet based TOEFL – IBT) or 6.0 (overall score International English Language Testing System – IELTS).Applicants must demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity, and professionalism. Material misrepresentation (e.g., plagiarism) at any time during the application or grant period is grounds for selection withdrawal or grant termination, as well as ineligibility for future participation. Applicants must be residing in Tanzania throughout the nomination and selection process. FLTA applicants should be young, early career educators capable of succeeding in the dual role of teaching assistant and student. They must be open to living with their U.S. student peers in undergraduate or graduate level campus housing and also engaging with faculty and staff with maturity and professionalism. Fulbright FLTA participants are required to return to their home countries upon completion of the nine-month program. ECA will not support any extension requests for participants. The Fulbright FLTA program does not support dependents or family members. Candidates may not have any dependents accompany them for any time during the program. Family and friends may visit program participants during holiday periods. By extension of this policy, pregnant candidates may not participate in the program if the birth is due during the program period. Preference is given to those candidates who have little or have no prior experience living in the United States. Participants must be flexible with placements at smaller or more ethnically diverse U.S. academic institutions in order to meet one of the goals of the Fulbright FLTA Program to place participants in all 50 States and at diverse institutions.


Plagiarism: Recently, plagiarism in applications has become a major issue and candidates should be aware that plagiarism in applications will not be tolerated. If applicants will plagiarize by not properly citing sources in their applications (personal statements, essays, etc.), their applications will be disqualified.

About TCU
The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) was established on 1st July 2005, under the Universities Act (Chapter 346 of the Laws of Tanzania) to succeed the former Higher Education Accreditation Council which had been in operation since 1995. It is a body corporate mandated to recognize, approve, register and accredit Universities operating in Tanzania, and local or foreign University level programs being offered by registered higher education institutions. TCU also coordinates the proper functioning of all university institutions in Tanzania so as to foster a harmonized higher education system in the country. In order to ensure that such a harmonious higher education system does not compromise institutional peculiarities and autonomy, each University has the legal right to operate under its own charter.

The roles of TCU

Regulatory:
Conducting periodic evaluation of universities, their systems and programs so as to oversee quality assurance systems at the universities and in the process leading to new institutions to be registered to operate in Tanzania, and the existing the institutions to be accredited, and validation of university qualifications attained from local and foreign institutions for use in Tanzania.

Supportive:
Ensuring the orderly performance of the Universities and the maintenance of the set quality standards, by providing support to universities in terms of coordinating the admission of students, offering training and other sensitization interventions in key areas like quality assurance, university leadership and management, fund raising and resources mobilization gender aspects in university management and gender mainstreaming, etc.

Advisory:
Advising government and the general public on matters related to the higher education system in Tanzania, including program and policy formulation on higher education, and the international issues pertaining to higher education. HESLB CONFIRMED TO PROVIDE LOANS TO DIPLOMA STUDENTS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019

The Higher Education Student Loans Board (HESLB) has opened a loan application window for students for the year 2017/2018 while increasing the number of students benefiting from 33, 000 to 40,000 credits, an increase of 7,000 students.


Speaking to journalists, today, May 10, HESLB CEO Abdurazaq Badru said the application would start today until July when the total amount of Sh 437 billion was allocated for loans and this year also the board has expanded the credit base for students a diploma degree where previously the degree of diploma was awarded to those of the teaching courses only but now the needs of experts will be given the opportunity.

“This year’s priority will be placed on courses that lack expertise as well as those contributing to the factories.
In ensuring that the Tanzanian government’s commitment to industrialization will end, we will focus on courses that will produce experts, including gas and oil engineering, minerals, teas agers, health, agriculture and others with a great need,

RITA: IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL LOANS APPLICANT FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019 ABOUT VERIFICATION OF BIRTH & DEATH CERTIFICATES 

Aim
The Registration Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency (RITA) aims at effective and efficient management of information on key life events, incorporation of trustees, safeguarding properties under trust, of deceased persons, insolvents, and minors to enable the law to take its course.

RITA was officially launched on the 23rd June 2006 and replaces what was known as the Administrator Generals Department in the Attorney Generals Chambers, Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. It is an Executive Agency under the Attorney Generals Chambers in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

The history of RITA dates back in 1917 when the German Colonial power enacted a law for registration of births and deaths (Proclamation No.15 of 1917 (Civil Area).

When the British took over the administration of Tanganyika (Tanzania Mainland) from the Germans retained the Register of births and deaths established under the Germans law by saving it under the Births and Deaths Registration Ordinance, 1920 (Cap.108)
It should be noted that under both colonial powers registration of births and deaths was not compulsory for Africans.

NEW UPDATE FROM LOAN BOARD (HESLB) ON LOAN APPLICATION 2018/19

The Higher Education Student Loan Board (HESLB) wishes to inform the public that it intends to start receiving a high education credit application for the year 2018/2019 from the first week of May, 2018 after the completion of major system improvements of applications through the internet.
Application system improvementsHESLB Executive Director Mr. Abdul-Razaq Badru said in his statement on April 17, 2018 that the application will be received online (www.olas.heslb.go.tz) which has been made up of improvements with the University of Dar es salaam Computer Center (UCC-UDSM). ).
Moreover, Mr. Badru said the window will be opened in line with the announcement of a detailed guide to introduce the application, the deadline for submitting applications, the qualifications and criteria used to analyze and lend for the next year of study expected to begin in October 2018.
“We urge all those who are hoping to apply for a higher education loan to take a closer look at the guidance we will provide for media and site at the beginning of May, 2018, and to focus on it,” said Mr. Badru.
Mr. Badru explained that the Credit Board’s call has been issued since years ago when credit applicants submitted their applications without considering the guidance provided by some student lending.
“Last year, for example, over 10,027 applicants among more than 61,000 applicants did not attach such important documents as birth certificates or even deaths certified by the Registration, Insolvency and Guarantee Agency (RITA) as we have directed,” he said.
Important documentation requiredOther important documents that credit applicants should prepare include copies of professional fourth-grade certificates, six and diploma certificates that have been verified by the Authorization Commissioner, namely the Lawyer or the Clerk.
In addition, applicants with disabilities or parents with disabilities should have letters confirming the disability from the Regional Medical Officer, District or District Health Center;
Mr. Badru has added that pupils who have been sponsored in their secondary or diploma studies have a warranty letter from the institutions that finance their studies.
HESLB officials provide education in the regionAt another point, Mr. Badru said this year the Board of Directors will visit various regions to meet creditors for the purpose of educating them about the proper procedures for submitting their mortgage applications through the internet. The schedule and locations for the meetings will be announced at the beginning of May, 2018.
HESLB started a formal job in 2005 that, in addition to other responsibilities, provide higher education loans to Tanzanians needing and qualified and collecting the same loans issued by the Government since 1994/1995.

The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) was established on 1st July 2005, under the Universities Act (Chapter 346 of the Laws of Tanzania) to succeed the former Higher Education Accreditation Council which had been in operation since 1995. It is a body corporate mandated to recognize, approve, register and accredit Universities operating in Tanzania, and local or foreign University level programs being offered by registered higher education institutions. TCU also coordinates the proper functioning of all university
institutions in Tanzania so as to foster a harmonized higher education system in the country. In order to ensure that such a harmonious higher education system does not compromise institutional peculiarities and autonomy, each University has the legal right to operate under its own charter.

The roles of TCU

Regulatory:
Conducting periodic evaluation of universities, their systems and programs so as to oversee quality assurance systems at the universities and in the process leading to new institutions to be registered to operate in Tanzania, and the existing the institutions to be accredited, and validation of university qualifications attained from local and foreign institutions for use in Tanzania.

Supportive:
Ensuring the orderly performance of the Universities and the maintenance of the set quality standards, by providing support to universities in terms of coordinating the admission of students, offering training and other sensitization interventions in key areas like quality assurance, university leadership and management, fund raising and resources mobilization gender aspects in university management and gender mainstreaming, etc.

Advisory:
Advising government and the general public on matters related to the higher education system in Tanzania, including program and policy formulation on higher education, and the international issues pertaining to higher education. It is my expectation that TCU will receive your maximum support in implementing its mandate and make University education contribute to the development of the country in general

AUSTRIAN DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TANZANIAN STUDENTS

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Austrian Development Cooperation offers two types of scholarships: scholarship for ADC’s priority countries and scholarship for other developing countries on a competitive basis. These scholarships are available for pursuing diploma in Hospitality Management or Tourism Management. Limited number of competitive scholarships are offered every year by the Austrian Development Cooperation

2.0 CALL FOR APPLICATION

Applications are invited from qualified Tanzanians to fulfill 30 positions for Diploma program in Hospitality Management or Tourism Management Scholarship tenable in Republic of Austrian for the academic year 2018/2019. The Scholarship covers:

i.      tuition fee

ii.       health insurance

iii.       food from Monday – Friday

3.0 QUALIFICATIONS

i.            A certificate in hotel and tourism operation from a recognized Institutions with working experience in the industry of at least two years.

ii.             Holder of ACSEE certificate with one principles pass and one subsidiary pass.

iii.             A level with at least 2 principal passes in any corresponding science and at least a pass in mathematics and English language

4.0 MODE OF APPLICATION

•      All applicants must attach certified photocopies of Academic Certificates, Transcripts, and birth certificates
