Vacancies at Arusha Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (AUWSA)



The Arusha Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (AUWSA) is a legally established entity responsible for the overall operations and management of water supply and sanitation services in Arusha City. It is among of the best Authorities in Tanzania.
The core function of the Authority is to provide clean, portable and wholesome water to Arusha City residence, disposal and treatment of waste water from customers connected to the central sewerage system.

In order to attain its vision and mission, AUWSA is seeking to recruit dynamic, experienced, competent and qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacant posts within the Authority’s establishment.

1.0 ELECTRICAL ENGINEER I (I POST):
1.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
1.2 Reports To: Head of Operation and Maintenance Section.

1.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
The successful applicant must be / have:
 Holder of Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
 Working experience of at least four (4) years in the operation and maintenance of electrical works.
 Must be registered by the Engineers Registration Board as a Graduate Engineer or Professional Engineer.
 Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from any recognized institution will be an added advantage
 Must be computer literate.

1.4 Nature of Employment: Unspecified Period Contract.

1.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To carry out maintenance and repair of plants, machines and equipments of the Authority.
ii. To carry out regular inspection of pumps, buildings, machines and equipments
iii. To train pump operators on pump operation and record keeping.
iv. To participate in establishing preventive maintenance schedule of plants, machines, equipments and motor vehicles.
v. To participate in preparing a schedule for preventive maintenance and repair of plants, machines, equipments and motor vehicles.
vi. To prepare maintenance and repair reports.
vii. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor


2.0 MECHANICAL ENGINEER I (I POST):
2.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
2.2 Reports To: Head of Operation & Maintenance Section.

2.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
 Degree in Mechanical Engineering from recognized Institution
 Working experience at least four (4) years in the operation and maintenance of mechanical works.
 Must be registered by the Engineers Registration Board as a Graduate Engineer or Professional Engineer.
 Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from any recognized institution will be an added advantage
 Must be a computer literate.

2.4 Nature of Employment: Unspecified Period Contract

2.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To carry out maintenance and repair of plants, machines and equipments of the Authority.

3.0 STATISTICAL OFFICER I (1 POST):
3.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
3.2 Reports To: Head of Planning and Development Unit.

3.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
 Holder of Bachelor degree or Advance Diploma in Statistics / Economic & Statistics.
 Work experience of at least four (4) years in operation and in the field of statistics.
 Master’s degree in Statistics from any recognized institution will be an added advantage
 Must be a computer literate.

3.4 Nature of Employment: Unspecified Period Contract

3.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To designing a system of collecting, coordinating and regulating AUWSA billing statistics;
ii. To apply statistical methodology in collecting Water production and billing data;
iii. To collect, analyses and keeping in safe custody AUWSA statistic data;
iv. To identify data which need to be collected and analyzed for planning and development of AUWSA activities.
v. To lease with AUWSA stakeholders in collecting, analyzing data.
vi. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

4.0 MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN I (1 POST):
4.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
4.2 Reports To: Head of Operation & Maintenance Section.

4.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
 Holder of an Ordinary Diploma (NTA 6) or full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical.
 Work experience of at least four (4) years in operation and maintenance of mechanical
 Must be a computer literate.

4.4 Nature of Employment: Unspecified Period Contract

4.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To carry out mechanical inspection, maintenance and repair of machines, equipments, pumps and motor vehicle professionally.
ii. Completing job card for every mechanical/motor vehicles maintenance and repair work.
iii. To train machines and pump operators/motor vehicle drivers on mechanical issues to be aware of.



iv. To document details or maintenance and repair works undertaken for every machine, equipment, motor, water pumps and motor vehicles.
v. To supervise maintenance of machines, motors, equipments, pumps and motor vehicles.
vi. To carryout electrical and mechanical preventive maintenance of machines, equipments, motors, water pumps and motor vehicles.
vii. To open job card for every electrical and mechanical maintenance and repair work.
viii. To make inspections of buildings, motors, pumps, machines and equipments
ix. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

5.0 PERSONAL SECRETARY I (1 POST):
5.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
5.2 Reports To: Head of Human Resources Section.

5.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
 Holders of a Secretarial certificate (typing stage III) who have passed both shorthand (English) and Kiswahili (Hati mkato) at a speed of 80 words per minute with computer knowledge in programs of:- Ms Word, Ms Excel and Ms Publisher, Internet, E-mail. Must
 Diploma in Secretarial Services from any recognized institution will be an added advantage
 The candidate must have ability to speak and possess good writing skills in English and Kiswahili

5.4 Nature of Employment: Unspecified Period Contract

5.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To keep record of file movement register
ii. To type, download , print and distribute to relevant officers incoming official emails
iii. To receive and direct telephone calls and replaying telephone messages , emails and fax messages
iv. To organizing and maintain a diary of appointments
v. To deal with correspondences and letter writing
vi. To maintain office equipment and machines
vii. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

6.0 PLANT OPERATOR II (2 POSTS):
6.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
6.2 Reports To: Head of Administration Section.

6.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
 Holder of Form IV Certificate and a Class “F & G” Driving License of Operating Plant and ability maintain the operating tools and least one clean year driving record.
 The candidate must have ability to speak and possess good writing skills in English and Kiswahili.

6.4 Nature of Employment: Unspecified Period Contract

6.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To operate plants and equipments efficiently and effectively.
ii. To keep in good and safe working condition and identify any defects on plants, equipments and its accessories before and after making any trip.
iii. To make regular inspection of Plants and Equipments;
iv. To carry out minor repairs to the plants and equipments;
v. To records all trips in the log book;
vi. To make sure plants and equipment are clean after work,
vii. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

7.0 MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVER II (3 POSTS)
7.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
7.2 Reports To: Head of Administration Section.

7.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
 Holder of Form IV Certificate and a Class “C1 and E” Driving License coupled who has attended a Basic Driving Course and at least one year clean driving record.
 The candidate must have ability to speak and possess good writing skills in English and Kiswahili.

7.4 Nature of Employment: Unspecified Period Contract

7.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To handle and drive the vehicle assigned.
ii. To keep in good and safe working condition and identify any defects on vehicle and its accessories before and after making any trip.
iii. To make regular inspection of vehicles;
iv. To carry out minor repairs to the vehicle;
v. To assist in collecting and dispatching mails;
vi. To clean assigned vehicles,
vii. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

8.0 METER READING ARTISAN ( 3 POSTS):
8.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
8.2 Reports To: Head of Billing Section.

8.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
 Holder of Form IV Secondary Education Certificate
 Holder of Trade Test III or Level III or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.

8.4 Employment Contract: Unspecified Period Contract
8.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To carry out meter reading
ii. To distribute water bills
iii. To carry out water connection and disconnections as instructed
iv. To performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor

9.0 ASSISTANT TECHNICIAN II (1 POST)
9.1 Appointing Authority: Management Committee.
9.2 Reports To: Head of Credit Control Section.

9.3 Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
 Holder of a Form IV Secondary Education Certificate who has undertaken Vocational Training and Holder of Trade Test III or Level III or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution, or Holder of NTA 4 certificate in Civil, Engineering (Specialized in water plumbing).

9.4 Nature of Employment: Unspecified Period Contract

9.5 Main Duties & Responsibilities:
i. To assist repairing of water distribution faults
ii. To inspect water distribution systems
iii. To carry water connection and disconnection as instructed
iv. To inspect water meters
v. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor

10.0 PACKAGE:

All above vacancies carry an attractive competitive salary and remuneration package in accordance with the qualifications, required skills and experience stated in specific vacant post and AUWSA's Scheme of Service and Salary Structure.

11.0 GENERAL CONDITIONS:
